The Flu, Your Immune System and Your Yoga Practice

Joani Nunez - Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Here it is. Your BY flu shot. Of course the entire series works to strengthen your immune system, but Supta Vajrasana - Fixed Firm Pose is your immune system's best friend. See that arch under the spine? It's stretching and stimulating your spleen, and your spleen manufactures antibodies that help resist infection. Pushing the chin into the chest stimulates other glands in your endocrine system which serve to keep you healthy.

So for the love of all that's good and holy, DO BOTH SETS! Seriously. I can't tell you how important this is. Come to class fully hydrated and get over your habit of compulsively drinking water before you go into this pose! You need to do both sets for optimum results and optimum health. Drink your water later. Do both sets, especially now. Then you won't have to worry about pigs or birds or any other creature, virus, or microbe. Like Bikram says "you become bullet proof, fire proof, water proof".... even swine proof! Do. Both. Sets!!

New Website Launch

Joani Nunez - Wednesday, April 22, 2009

I know it's been a while since I've blogged, but I promise to make it up to you! We have been hard at work creating our new website and I think that once you see it you will agree that the time has been well spent. It's been time consuming, and it's also been a labor of love. We plan to launch it this Friday 4/21, the day of the new moon - an auspicious day for new beginnings. Then you can count on regular blog entries as well as current news and announcements.

Perfect Yoga Weather

Joani Nunez - Thursday, March 19, 2009

If you've been coming to class for a while and know how to safely practice the postures, why not take your yoga mat outside and practice? This is such a gorgeous time of year, afternoons and early evenings are warm, flowers are blooming, birds are singing, lizards are sunning, trees are leafing out, and yogis of old commonly practiced out of doors.

Take a gentle approach, don't push yourself. Take your time to savor each movement and really feel the energy of each posture move through your body. Practicing like this adds a beautiful dimension to your regular studio practice, so have fun, enjoy yourself and really connect with the trees around you when you do Tree Pose :-)
